Kia Gelinas

Middle School History

Kia is originally from Denver, Colorado, and is excited to begin her fifth year of teaching, and her first year teaching at TCPS! She earned her B.A. in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History and Psychology from Emmaus University in Dubuque, IA. Kia has a love for history and social sciences and is passionate about helping students understand their place in history and encouraging them to make meaningful connections between the past and the world around them. She believes that learning history is not just about understanding what happened in the past, but also understanding the people, perspectives, and choices that continue to shape our world in the present.

Kia recently moved to San Diego from Florida. Outside of the classroom, Kia loves staying active, coaching, playing basketball, cooking, trying new foods, attending live music events, playing with her dogs (Olive, 6 years and Brew, 8 months) and exploring new places in San Diego. As a former collegiate athlete and coach, she brings her love of teamwork, hands-on learning, and growth into her classroom.

Kia is thrilled to be joining the TCPS community! She looks forward to building meaningful relationships with her students and helping them grow into curious, confident, and thoughtful learners.
