We incorporate cross-age learning so students can work on stimulating and challenging projects with students of other ages. <image:title>Our School's History</image:title>
<image:caption>In 1983 Maggie Price and Sherry Risch opened the doors to The Child’s Primary School (now TCPS). The private kindergarten through eighth grade school was built on the principles of value and respect for the individual uniqueness of each child. TCPS believes to this day in supporting each child within their community including family, school and those who influence the life of the child. Both Maggie and Sherry have now retired from their positions leading TCPS administration on a daily basis and proudly serve on TCPS’ Board of Directors.</image:caption>

<image:caption>One of the most important reasons for children to attend school in person is the opportunity for social-emotional learning with peers. This is why over the last several years we took extra steps to enable our students to enjoy the benefits of social interaction and cross-age groupings while remaining mindful of health. We are committed to following school health and safety requirements put forth by the County, as needed.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Middle School Math Teacher (6-8) & Coding Teacher (K-5) Dee is thrilled to return to TCPS teaching middle school math and lower school coding. Dee is a proud math nerd with a passion for understanding the quantitative aspects of the natural world as well as human and social behaviors that are foundational to how we experience the infinite beauty and love that surround us all. Dee started his college studies in the Air Force ROTC as an electrical engineering major at Boston University before spending three years in South Korea becoming a kimchi connoisseur and king of karaoke (노래방). Dee completed a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Asian Studies at the University of Utah, and then did graduate studies at the University of Hawai’i as a Korea Foundation scholar earning an M.A. in Economics. Among other things, while in Hawaii, Dee also returned to the basketball court where he first started coaching in 1984, which was the beginning of discovering the teacher within. In 2005, he came to San Diego to join the faculty of The Bishop’s School where he taught a range of economics courses adapting to the interests and skills of his students. He was passionate about teaching economics because of the opportunity that it afforded his students to have a cross-curricular learning experience pulling together all that they had learned in their math, history, science, literature and art classes (such as exploring the concepts of game theory in the writings of Shakespeare, creating artistic visual representations of two-dimensional and three-dimensional cost and production functions, or creating songs about monetary and fiscal policy). With a commitment to student autonomy, Dee’s personalized support for his students has helped countless students begin to explore the overlapping areas of their “personal Venn diagram” of skills and interests from their educational experiences to discover their uniqueness through the connectedness of their various passions. Dee is also excited to teach K-5 coding at TCPS! The logic of coding has been one of his most reliable tools for learning and understanding the world. Understanding anything new is a process of decoding. Moreover, coding is a mindset for learning, problem-solving, and maximizing the value of each day. Whether camping, going to Disneyland, watching a Padres game, or seeing a Pearl Jam concert, Dee always enjoys things most when it is time he spends with his family - his wife Liz, their son Quinn, and their two French bulldogs, Johnny Utah and Dani California.</image:caption>

<image:title>Rachel Szalay - Rachel Szalay</image:title>
<image:caption>Assistant Head of School Rachel joined TCPS in 2011 as a Kindergarten teacher, a role she loved and held for ten years before stepping into her current position as Assistant Head of School. She holds a B.A. in Speech Communications from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and later earned her M.A. in Education and teaching credentials from Point Loma Nazarene University here in San Diego. Before joining TCPS, Rachel taught K–3 music and served as a teacher trainer with the Peace Corps in Belize, where she also coached girls' soccer and co-led a girls' empowerment club. A native of Pennsylvania, her passion for education began during six formative years teaching preschool. Outside of school, Rachel enjoys spending time with her husband and four children. She finds joy in cooking, singing, reading, creating art, and cheering on her kids at their sporting events. She’s also an active volunteer with a local women’s organization and a proud fellow of the San Diego Area Writing Project. At the core of Rachel’s educational philosophy is a deep commitment to exploring identity and fostering a strong sense of belonging among students. She affectionately describes TCPS as her “happy place” and is a proud TCPS Tiger through and through.</image:caption>
