Spirit Week – A Month of Fridays!

The Student Council-sponsored Spirit Week began last Friday with Crazy Hair Day.  Students and staff showed up with a variety of odd hair styles - dyed, gelled, pig-tailed, bowed and clipped.  This coming Friday is Dress Like A Friend Day which means we’ll probably be seeing double that day, maybe even triple and quadruple!  Students are encouraged to come to school dressed to represent the theme for the day.  Themes are:

§        May 7th – Dress Like A Friend Day

§        May 16th – Pajama Day

§        May 23rd – All-Around-the-World Day

§        May 30th – Character Day

Where in the USA are . . .

The middle schoolers?  Does it seem a little quieter around campus this week?  Are there fewer children on the playground in the morning?  Is the parking lot a little less hectic at drop-off and pick-up times?  You’re not imagining things.

Twenty-eight middle school students and four staff members, Sherry Risch, Donny Kim, Diana Hock and Jim Price, boarded an American Airlines flight to Boston yesterday morning for the annual middle school “camp” experience.  From their arrival late yesterday afternoon to their departure from Boston on Thursday afternoon, they will explore the “Cradle of Liberty” and nearby historic sites.  They will hike Boston’s Freedom Trail, visit Salem and its Witch House, talk with the Pilgrims at Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, and walk in the footsteps of the Minutemen at Lexington and Concord.  We look forward to hearing their reports of their grand adventure when they return.

Daycare Reminder

When students are on campus, from 7:30 AM before school until 6:00 PM after school, TCPS is responsible for their care and safety.  Students who arrive before 8:15 AM must sign into Daycare.  Students who are not picked up by 2:45 PM (Kgn) or 3:15 PM (Grades 1-8) are automatically checked into Daycare and must be signed out by an authorized adult when they leave.  Parents are billed accordingly.  Students participating in after-school enrichment classes or sports programs are under the supervision of the Daycare staff.  Daycare is not included in the enrichment class or sports program fees.  Parents are also billed for students on campus while siblings participate in after-school activities or siblings are at the park next door.

Join us next Wednesday, May 14th, as we gather together as a community to celebrate what makes our school great — our teachers and staff!  Breakfast will be served at 8:15 AM in the Big Hall and TCPS students and parents are encouraged to join us for a light continental breakfast.  Additional information about some special surprises that you’ll want to be a part of will be sent via email tomorrow.  You won’t want to miss out so don’t forget to check your email.

Every year TPG hosts a Used Book Sale as a service to the TCPS community a chance to stock up on good beach reads before the summer.  The Used Book Sale is scheduled this year for June 5th and 6th.  At this time, however, we don’t have a volunteer to head up this special event.  If you’ve ever dreamed of owning your own book store, now’s your chance.  If you are interested and would like more information about the Used Book Sale, please contact Chelsea Asaro at casaro1@san.rr.com  as soon as possible.

Thank you again to everyone who donated their time to the Jogathon & Auction. We hope you know how much we appreciate all that you do.  Hopefully, everyone signed the Volunteer Log at the registration table on Saturday, but in case you didn’t, please make sure to fill out a volunteer time card and drop it off in the Main Office (extra time cards are available in the rack by the door) or you can email our Membership Chair, Jana Roberts, directly at jana.roberts@ngc.com.  We want to make sure you get credit for all of your hard-worked hours.  Jana will be tabulating volunteer hours and sending out membership statements again soon.  Please turn in your hours no later that May 5th.  Thank you again for all of your help.

Now that the Jogathon is over, it’s time to collect from those generous running sponsors.  Watch for Jogathon Sponsor Packets which will be sent home with your child soon.  This packet contains letters from The Parent Group which can be sent to your sponsors with you child’s lap total and the amount your sponsors owe.  Please start collecting as soon as possible - it’s important that we have all sponsor donations in by the end of the year.  Thank you again for supporting our Jogathon by soliciting running sponsors.  Please let them know how much the school appreciates their donations.

Jogathon Medals

We have participation medals for students who collected Jogathon sponsors but were unable to attend or had to leave before the awards ceremony.  Medals are available for pick up in the Main Office.

The Parent Group would love to hear your thoughts about this year’s Jogathon & Auction.  Each year we strive to make our one and only TPG-sponsored fundraiser better than the year before and we need your help.  If you have any suggestions about ways we could improve the event, please email them to Chelsea Asaro at casaro1@san.rr.com or, if you prefer to submit your comments anonymously, you can just drop a note off in the Main Office.
