Our 8th graders became city planners and were tasked with finding the best location for a new hospital in the city of San Francisco. They took into account such factors as population density, neighborhood income levels, ground shaking amplification zones, seismic hazard areas, access to major roads, elevation changes, and proximity to existing large hospitals. Here is a map of their chosen locations.
To start our new unit on Ancient Egypt, the 6th graders spent a lot of time researching the importance of the Nile River and the three seasons that were based around the river: Flooding, Planting, and Harvesting. They incorporated their research and notes into a short news broadcast.
To supplement their Empires of Islam unit, the 7th graders chose independent projects to further their learning on the Islamic world. They spent time researching, writing a fully formatted report, and creating a visual display. After their presentations, we all participated in a wonderful feast of hummus, pita, falafel, plov, baklava, and other desserts.
Welcome back everyone. We’re off to another exciting school year. Make sure you check back here often to see what is happening this year in middle school history.
Our 8th graders had a wonderful opportunity to take part in a naturalization ceremony yesterday. They helped usher and direct the soon to be citizens and gave wonderful speeches centered around the theme “What I Like About America”. Check back soon for the video of their speeches.
