Voyagers from the Mayflower Speak out!
There were many decisions to be made if one made the perilous trip across the ocean to the New World. For homework, the first graders had this assignment: Imagine that you travel back in time to 1620. You and your family are about to embark on the Mayflower to sail to the New World. Your parents tell you that you may pack one special thing in your family chest. What would you bring and why would you choose it? (Remember you cannot pick something that needs batteries or electricity because they don’t exist yet!)
Ayden, who is not on the docks this morning, wrote: I am going to bring my lunchbox. My lunchbox can carry my food and stay fresh. It has a strap that frees my hands so I can work.

A New Litter of Puppies
After being inspired by the documentary “BETWEEN THE FOLDS: Exploring Origami”, the first graders decided they wanted to get “hands on.” There were the sounds of lots of little puppies in our classroom at the end of the day. Such excitement! Hope moms and dads don’t mind this new pet at home.
